CNA Jump Start

With spring already here and schedules becoming increasingly busy, we encourage you to renew your license early. We realize that updating your CEUs can be overwhelming if you’ve waited. We encourage you to do monthly CEUs in line with your license time of 2 years. Take advantage of the perks as well for being an independent contractor- keep track of license costs and credential costs for tax deductions. If you are an independent contractor, yeah! You can also deduct from your taxes: phone purchase, the cost of your annual phone bill, and uniforms. Anyone say I want a new uniform or phone! Stethoscopes and any equipment needed to perform your nursing job as a business owner.

Our greatest compliment is when our Coastal Care associates thank us for helping them track miles in the app! Why- this is an amazing business deduction. As an independent contractor, you can deduct your miles because you are traveling to a temporary work location. You must maintain a detailed log of your business miles, including dates, destinations, and business purpose, to qualify for the deduction.

For 2026, the IRS standard mileage rate for business driving is 72.5 cents per mile, up from 70 cents in 2025. For example, if I work for an agency and I drive 10 miles to and from my home to a shift 5 days per week, here is the calculation: based on 100 miles per week at the 2026 rate of 72.5 cents ($0.725) per mile, my weekly tax deduction is $72.50. If this driving continues for a full 52-week year, the total deduction would be $3,770. What if I traveled to multiple locations? What a project!! Instead, inside the Coastal Care app - we do it for you every shift, every mile is tracked on your behalf- Staffing Made Easy.
